Cool

I have a feeling the answer is "No", but anyway. Does anyone know can you master from the 488 onto minidisk? I have the loan of a big old minidisk recorder - one of those big ones that is like a VCR as opposed to the little ones that fit in your pocket - with no multitrack facility. I would like to use my 488's multitracking to record onto minidisk, but I have a feeling the Tascam doesn't let you do this. Is this true?

Thumbs up YES!

Hey there...
Yes, you can mix down to minidisk from the 488. connect your RCA stereo outs with Y cables so that you ultimately have a left and a right signal. then connect that to the inputs on the minidisc. i have found minidisc to be awesome to mix to and that you can really make the tascam sound pretty darn good!!!

Arrow BBEing

If you really wanna go nuts, put a BBE in between the two,it'll give you more clarity and detail.Go easy on those knobs, though,a little goes a long way! Cheers!

I own a TASCAM 414 and mix down to a Sony minidisc deck like the one that your talking about. I love it! It's far better than mixing to another cassette deck. I also use it for external bouncing. Usually I'll mix three tracks to stereo on the minidisc, send that back to two tracks of my four track, leaving me with two open tracks. Sounds much better than internal bouncing, which would force you to mix down three tracks to the fourth in mono only. I know that there are lot of people that don't care for minidisc, but for the purposes that I mentioned above, I think it's a GREAT idea. Good luck to you! Trag.
