humbucker route

how difficult would it be to re-route a telecaster for humbuckers? what tools would it require? how likely am I (or a tech) to screw it up? since it is covered with a pickguard and the tele bridge, how screwed up would it have to be to actually be trashed?

It will affect tone, regardless of who does the work. If it's a Fender, send it to a qualified tech., the very nature of the questions suggest's you aren't familiar with woodworking or the tools of the trade. With all of the pickup options available that would fit in a single slot, why would you want to route it?

I second what ez said. It is not hard for someone who knows how to do it and has the templates and the tools. I used to do stuff like this all the time but I haven't done it in years. If it came up again, I would pay someone else to do it.

how about instead of humbuckers, us a hotrail style pickup. I would say it is about 75% of a hummer and would fit right in the slot with no alteration needed.

I have a pair of hbs that I already like a lot. Want to move them into a telecaster. haven't bought the tele yet, I just haven't seen any decent double fats for sale. might end up building a wm.
