Buzziz galore
Why does it sound like a Ray gun mixed with a tumble dryer whenever i plug my bass or guitar in to record?????
i'm going directly from the output of the guitar into a Joe Meek vc1q into a patchbay into an EMI interface into my computer. When i move around at different angles, it gets a little better. Thanks |

Can you plug directly into the EMU from the Joemeek with a balanced cable? If so, try it and see if the problem goes away.

What kind of monitor do you have? If it's a CRT, then you could be getting interference from that. Try moving away from the screen.

Bad cables? Long cable runs? Cell phone, RF device? Grounding issues?

I've never had one buzz. Though I hate them because they cover an unused outlet, and often overheat and cook. The latter can be fixed with a drill press ![]() |

Yes, replace it with a proper, regulated power supply

It came from Frontier Design for the Tango 24 and has a separate power module between the two connnections (receptacle plug and interface to the unit). Moving it away from the rack and mounting it on an adjacent wall seemed to fix it.

Sounds like grounding problems to me. Does it get any better if you turn off all the lights? Does the buzz come and go (like whenever th microwave or refrigerator or coffe pot runs...)? You may need to try some AC ground lift adapters in certain places. This is not the proper way of fixing it, but it may work and is FAR less expensive than isolated balanced power.
