Another Metal Tune

This another song from the same project that I posted a song from a week or so ago. I am looking for any mix advice/general comments. Its me on all guitars/bass and a friend of mine on drums. We just slap this stuff together whenever hes in town, no real practice or rehersal so take this for what it is. Its still instrumental at this point. Vocals are possibly in the works. Thanks in advance

Forever Condemned
http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/...d=3299&alid=-1

its the first song on the page.

Very strong start.

I would pull some (a tiny bit) of the 250-300hz out of the guitars and give it to the kick if you get me.
Man, this shit NEEDS a mean-ass vocal. Do you have lyrics at all?

If you do and you just need someone to sing I would be happy to give it a shot.

Fucking rock!

Jake thanks for listening man. Neither of us can sing nor really write lyrics. W.I.S.C has been working with us on writing vocals for these tracks, unfortunately things have been moving alot slower than we would like.
I honestly have only heard a song or two from you and its been a while so I don't really remember the vocals. Were looking for someone with sort of a Fates Warning or Dream Theatre vocal vibe but there does not seem to be too many of those guys running around anymore.
If you want to take a crack at it your more than welcome to.

billmcdonald glad you enjoyed the tune.

Thanks for the listen!

I don't know those bands but here's a couple meaner ones I have done.

http://www.phoenixlightandsound.com/SelfHelp.mp3
http://www.phoenixlightandsound.com/Enshrined.mp3

The "mean" parts take a while to develop but as all the vocals are me you can hear I have a rather decent range of styles....well, screaming and softie voice. I am willing to take a crack at singing but writing would be out of the question right now. I will help but I have my hands quite full in that area for now. I have about five tunes midstream that need finished.

If not, no offense, I like your music and will help if needed.

Hey Jake checked out your tunes. You have a cool voice kind of early 90s vibe to it. I think were looking for someone with more of a "I got kicked in the balls" kind of vocal range hahaha. I really appreciate the offer and the support man.

Well I thought of ol' Individual thought patterns in the beginning (intro). But I don't like the feel of this one other then that. If you could slip the intro into the other (first) one it would fuckin kick ass. I actually had that guitar part stuck in my head for a couple of days. That spainish/classical fuckin rocks kinda missed it. Anyway wire, keep shreddin bro you'll get it. What kinda of voice you lookin for Judas type shit? This one says to me thought to hard. Less letting it flow.

*edit* My bad I didn't read it well. Its not the same song. But it has some same characteristics.

L8er,
livilaNic

New avatar I see. Look alot older then the last one.

I don't know about the mix

I am not qualified to give you any mixing advice, but the "buring your dead" sure kicked ass as far just listening to music goes. I am not even a big fan of dream theater and that genre, but I can respect their talent, and you guys sound pretty talented too.

good luck

The guitars sound gainy but not necessarily heavy... and the kick doesn't fit (it's also barely hearable) I think maybe try sampling the kick or something? Besides that sounds really good.

livilaNic thanks for listening.

I never would have made that correlation even though im into Death. Sound of Perseverance is probably my favorite by them. Either way I'll take that as a compliment.

Something melodic is the main requirement. Fates Warning, Spiral Architect, Pychotic Waltz are a few bands that have/had singers we would love to steal LMAO.

haha the other one was at least 4 years old.

You didn't like the other one at first either. Maybe this one will grow on you as well.

I can respect that comment. This stuff is honestly done just off the cuff no real thought process involved. I guess you could say everyones "Flow" is a little different though and I can appreciate that. Thanks again for the listen.

DC-XPL I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks for listening.

I don't really care for them either. Its just normally easier to name them because they are probably the most well known Progessive metal act to date.
Thanks for listening.

Strave I think theres still some eq tweaking required to make the kick pop through on smaller systems. Thanks for listening.

The death comment was more towards the drums. The Ride, hat style timming shit.

Never heard of any of them. *lives in a cave*

Will you be jammin more with the drummer any time soon? I want to hear some shit when you guys are able to colaberate a lil' more. I can't believe you put shit out so fast to get critiqued. As a guitarist myself I'm to much of a perfectionist. Have a good one.

We are lined up to do 3-4 more drum tracks in the next month or so. My drummers schedule is a little fuzzy right now. His real band is signed so he stays pretty busy with them and school.

This stuff is all in fun. We don't get together enough to actually practice so I could potentially spend months perfecting every little thing but thats not really my method of choice. I feel like I get better with every day (to some extent) and it would be un-productive and boring to wait for the perfect takes. I try and get the best that I can do and move on. Obviously I don't leave any big time uglies. lol

I believe I wrote/posted a rough demo with programmed drums in December of 2003. My drummer signed on the project shortly after writing that demo. These songs are from a 5 song E.P. were working on. We worked out/did some pre-production demos in a few practice sessions last year. Now were just going through and doing the songs again with a little more serious approach I suppose. So to answer your question the song is about a year old and the last one you heard would be the 3rd version/recording of it.

Yeah makes sense in a way. But as you stated the 3rd take. Something made it worth reviewing and going over a few points to make it satisfying. It's all good. I'm just saying that alot of the times feelings change (IMO) and each day is different. So say I recorded this song this one day and the next day I go over that song. It doesn't have the same feel as it did the day before.
But then that day you review it you thought you'd change something that didn't quite make sense. I understand it does get tedious. But I just like to go over it a few times to feel the feel. To each thier own. Happy recording
