Bass Check Anyone?

I know I have a shitload of work to do on this song, but it'd help if somebody could let me know if the bass is out of control on your system. It feels a bit loud to me...typical deal where it sounds okay on the cans, but may be thumping a bit too much. Or hell, I'm no genius...lemme' know if it's thin, lol.

thanks if you can help,

Okay, well based on your headphone review, Jake, I turned it down 3db because you just don't know wtf you're talking about.

Yes, I'm kidding...I mean, I did turn it down, but I did that before...you know I love you, lol. Thanks for listening.

I'm on cans at work but it sounds good.

Nice Bass playing! Sound's like a "real" Bass player, LOL

I dig the song, and good playing/singing all around.

thanks a lot for the listen Nic. If you get a chance, can you (or anybody) listen to this one (where I think the bass is right) and let me know if it seems too hot too? That will tell me what I need to know about most of the tunes, actually.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the ears...I almost never post in here anymore either...good to see a familiar face. Take care and I'm sure I'll be tweaking bass levels for weeks, heheee.

Hi Chris

Yeah, I reckon it's a touch too high. The bass is a bit hyped with my monitors and my room but it's definitely too loud and significantly higher than my reference recordings. Really like the song though!!

Chris, what bass? LOL! Needs to be cranked up quite a bit, listening on my near-fields. Effing guitar work is AWESOME. Vocal is a bit thin....needs some middle. ---Lee

You never know what will come out of mutual respect! I think of my talented Texan Lawyerman often..........Maybe you'll be caressing your 6-string as I glide down the 88 on the airwaves together..................(this is why I sniff around) hehehehehehee.

Cheap pc speaker input here, Chris.

It sounded pretty good. Nice work again. Nothing really stuck out as needing a fix.

First...thanks a lot for the listens guys. Second, seems about half are saying it's too loud, and half are saying it's too thin...that tells me that it's probably a hyped frequency range in there that's coming out on some systems and not on others, which is useful information...now I just have to find out where that hump is; I mean, I do want it to thump some...it's quasi-country, so the kick and bass should pound you in the chest a bit...but not rumble;

I hate mixing, lol.

THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH FOR THE LISTENS AND THE FEEDBACK.

Sorry Chris. Realized I was listening to the first portion before the bass kicked in at 30:00. DUH! That streaming format ala' Nowhere got the best of me, dangit. This DOES sound real nice, as expected. The bass level sounds reasonably present and defined. Vocal comments remain...on the lead anyway.

2:53 on...watch vocal levels! Getting HOT for a bit there! Damn, that drummer is musically inclined! Nicely recorded kit....I want to hear more roundness in the toms, however. Please forgive me for a dumbass review. Effing Nowhere Radio's streaming doesnt let you jump forward on tracks. Tripped up my ass. I was wondering why my comments were whacked. And so it goes..... ---Lee

Hey Chris - Nice tune again. Good to see you posting some tunes again.

Personaly I would bring the bass back a bit. Just a c*nt hair though. At least that's how it sounds where I'm listening. But in the bridge I'd bring it up a hair. The volume is lost a bit on the higher notes.

Hope everything is ok with you..

Dave

Thanks...I just did that (turned it down everywhere but the bridge, where I boosted it a bit...there's so much going on in the bridge, it still gets lost).

Lee - thanks for catching that vocal spot...It was an envelope mistake that got by me. Appreciate the followup.

Rokket, Noisedude, Travis - thanks a lot for listening and helping. I'm trying to mix 12 songs at once, and the ears on this one help all of them (I hope, lol).

At least if you're doing twelve at once you won't get that problem where you can't 'hear' the mix any more cos you've spent so long on it!!!

To me the bass was creeping up out of its place in the spectrum .... but I think what I mean by that is that a little more definition and articulation of the notes would enable you to back the level off a touch and have it sit in happier.

YMMV big time!!
