Question

New to home studio apps...so here's a newbie question:

I'm recording bass guitar direct to a DAW (Frontier Designs Dakota/Tango24 and Cubase). My signal path for bass guitar is into the instrument jack of a Presonus MP20 mic preamp, then into a Focusrite Compounder (compressor), then into the DAW (Tango24). I'm looking for recommended settings for the compressor (threshold/ratio/attack/release) to keep the bass from disappearing into the mix. Any recommended EQ settings would be appreciated as well. Finally, if anyone knows of any guides or references to compression settings available via the web I'm all ears.

Cheers!
