spdif and cubase sx1

hi there, im currently using cubase sx1. i am planning on getting the behringer vamp pro for guitar recording. people say that its is better to use the spdif connection for the output of the vamp pro. i have a 1010lt which has a spdif input. ive never used the spdif connections before so im not so sure how they work...
in cubase there is a VST inputs window where i can select which inputs on my card are active/inactive. when using the spdif, how do i go about selecting the input source i want to use for the guitar track to be the spdif channel? can it be done? any help would be great. thanks again

Steve

Don't know how it works on the 1010 in detail, but in principle...if you go to the card's mixer / control panel, you should be able to identify which channels are the S/PDIF inputs. It will come up a a stereo pair. Then just choose those channels as the inputs for your audio track in Cubase; both of them if a stereo track, one if mono. On mine its 5&6, and I usually send each to a different mono track, so I can mess around with panning etc. Hope that helps.

umm...im not sure that i follow you know sorry... my card has a seperate spdif input cable coming out of it.in the hardware control panel theres a choice of Coax(RCA) orm Optical...these are blanked out at the minute because i dont have anything connected via the spdif...i assume?...
there is a window in the control panel displaying all input/output levels. in the manual it says the spdif should be there, but its not for me, presumably it will be when something is connected?...which may mean once there visible in the hardware control panel, they will appear within cubase as an input that i can use? if anyone else has any thoughts please share!
