Session Drummer Question

Just got 4PE today, loaded the updates blah blah blah.

Set out to build drum loops with SD.

I'm curious how come I highlight say 1 pattern 4 bars long, but when I hit the "apply effects" button I get a clip 5 measures long. In fact, it's a bit over 5 measures long.

Honestly, I haven't been smoking that much today.

So what gives?

The tempo is set at default 100 bpm. I'm just goofing around trying to find my way around. I've got Garrigus' book here but haven't found this issue in it yet.

Anyway, I'm gonna eat something and scratch my head some more.

Thanks in advance if you have any insight to share.

Yeah, actually I tried to delete the entire thread, but I guess after I replied that wasn't gonna happen. Oops.

I think my perception of what the length of a pattern is to blame. Still not sure. It seemed like I could quantize some of the loops back to grid, and others not.

Still messing around with it.

OMFG I don't know man. I thought it was a snap to grid problem but I guess not. I tried setting the Thru time to the 4th measure still went alittle past 4M's. :S

Maybe it's because the SD sequences aren't made to sound so robotic. I don't know.

Open them in the Drum Edit pane and they're a long way from being snapped to grid.

It's cool. I dig the drum editing features. I also like being able to audition the drums so easily to put together a sequence.

I got a demo of a virtual Minimoog up and running today. It's very kewl.

I think CW did a better job on the manual for Sonar than they did for PA9. The info is laid out more logically, and way easier to find.

Hi c7sus,

Yep, the patterns for SD were recorded by a drummer using a MIDI controller. That's why they don't sound robotic, which is a good thing. :-) You can easily make them robotic (if that's what you want) by quantizing them though.

Best,
Scott
