What do you think of my songwriting skills?
Hello,
I've posted in the mp3 clinic a few times, but nobody comments much on the songwriting aspect of my recordings - just the recording quality (which is what I was expecting). I would really appreciate some songwriting feedback. I think I'm a better writer than performer, but I don't think I'm too bad at playing them either, haha. Anyway, please go here: http://www.feelslikefridaymusic.com/music.htm and have a listen. There will only be a few covers on the page - clearly marked at the bottom. The songs under the title "Feels Like Friday" are probably better, but not necessarily. Alternatively, if that link doesn't work for you, go here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/writ...eelslikefriday Thanks for the input in advance! |

Hi. We have the same last name.
Listening now....(commenting basically on the songwriting quality as seen from my eyes/heard with my ears) *** Something better *** Ok. I like the verse very well. Chorus is ok. With a better chorus and better arrangement this one could be really great. Work more on this one. *** The way it has to be *** the de-da-de-da guitar in the intro is a tad annoying. Verse: ok. Not as good as the verse in the song above. Chorus: too predictable. Still ok. This one also needs a better chorus *** 13 miles *** Verse: ok. Not groundbreakingly good. Arrangement: not good. Guitars shouldnt be that high and play all the time. No hit potential in my ears *** Better this way *** Hmm. Dont get any impression at all from this one. Boring as it is now. Geez so many songs. I'll stop my feedback here. I might continue later. You have a good voice. The recordings, mix and arrangement isnt the best. Recorded live some of it?

I can remember when you posted "The Way It Has To Be". I still like the song. My only bad point to your writing is that all these songs are centered around the same subject matter: boy misses love of his life.
There are so many songs out there on this, and even though it may be well written, I think only on song on this should be enough for anyone's resume. Get over her and move on. There are so many other things to write about. Love is a really strong emotion, and it's powerful and hard to forget when it's real. But I think you do yourself a disservice by not exploring other subjects. Just my two cents. You can take it or leave it.

Thanks for the feedback.
I have new material that is not the whole love-lost thing. Most of those songs are old - years ago. Anything under the name "Brian Wahl" is a live recording - its all from a CD I made from a live show. Thanks again for taking the time to listen! I'm always trying to write. . . |
