Tempo changes in SX2.

Hi all,

How does one go about changing the tempo of a song, in SX2? One of my daughters loves fiddling around with loops, and have been trying to change the tempo of her creations. I have gone through the manual, but - for the life of me - could gain no success with this. The manual made mention of a 'Tempo Slider', which was supposed to be visible in the upper tool bar. But there is no such slider there, and I don't see how to go about inserting one. There is a round dial, on the bottom tool/transport bar, which allows the changing of tempo by rotating one of the dots that is housed within it. However, this dot has to be held into that position for as long as you want that cahnge of tempo, or else it will immediately reinstate itself to the default position of 120bpm. Any help in this matter would be most appreciated.

Don't know about SX2, but, in SE there are a few ways to do this. In the project menu, there is an option called "Tempo Track" that you can use. Also, you can just right click on the tempo in the transport bar and enter a new value.

mmistudent is on a distinguished road
is it audio or midi? if its midi its easy, hit F2 to display your transport bar, Click the word TEMPO on the transport, this will change it to a fixed tempo (if the tempo varies you're gonna have to use the tempo track, but I won't get into that). Then, where it says "120.00" click it, and type in the new BPM. Its as easy as that. If its audio you're gonna be dealing with time compression/expansion. If it is audio, let me know and I'll try to explain how to work that.

It is audio loops that my daughter is playing around with. I don't rightly know why the "Tempo Slider" does not show in the tool bar, but I do know that entering a new value, in the tempo window, serves no favorable purpose, because any new value will automatically revert back to the default 120bpm setting.

Thanks for responding.

The value keeps jumping back because the tempo is set to "Tempo Track". Right click in the transport bar and turn the Tempo section on. Now you can select between Tempo Tracks and Fixed. With fixed, you can just change the number in the transport bar and it will stay that tempo. The Tempo Track offers options for changing the tempo and/or the beat somewhere in the middle of the song.

Well, I tried this, yet it just doesn't seem to want to work for me. No matter where the tempo is set (Track or Fixed), there is no change in the response. In the "Fixed" mode the changed value will lock in, but the playback won't change. The file will always play back at whatever tempo the song was recorded in.

Also, how does one go about getting the "Tempo Slider" to show?

Thanks again.

Ah, but now you are miss informed in the first place. With the tempo setting, fixed or tempo track, you are changing the tempo of the project, NOT of the audio material in the project! If you have recorded something in a sertain tempo, then you can change the tempo any way you want, but the file, and therefor what you hear, won't change.

What you need is time-stretching. With this you can "stretch" the time over which a file plays, thus making it slower/faster. To do this the easiest way (IMHO) is to click on the Selector arrow key at the top (in the row with the scissors, glue etc.) and select "Sizing applies Timestretch" from the small pulldown menu. Now you can "size" the file by clicking and draging one side of the waveform. You can use snap to size it to a sertain beat but you can turn snap off to freely timestretch aswell.

Hope this is what you need. And about the tempo slider, I've never seen or heard of that, and I've been using Cubase for more than a while.
