need some help with soundcards

i have about 2 secs of lag when i monitor my recordings and try to overdub. My bud says it's cause I have a crappy soundcard, can anyone advise me to a good one. I have a p-3 and lots of ram already. Oh yea, i'm using a m-audio firewire 410

the soundcard shouldn't be cauinsg all of that latency as it is a firewire unit. maybe it's the older pIII that is causing it.

Use WDM or ASIO drivers to talk to the card and adjust the latency slider in OPTIONS-AUDIO if you are using WDM or the equivalent in the M-Audio control panel if you are using ASIO.

Do not use MME if you can avoid it.
