Exporting DAW Files to Sonar 2
My music minister at church borrowed a Yamaha AW4416 to do some recording and has to give it back in a couple of days.
We got all of the tracks recorded but the final mix needs more work so we want to export the tracks to Sonar so we can take our time. My sound card is a Gina20. It only has SPDIF in/out and 2 Analog Inputs. How can I get all 14-16 tracks moved over without messing up the timing? Thanks!

Manually, track by track and then line them up.

Doesn't that unit have a CD burner in it?
Can you burn wav files of each track individually then import into Sonar? Just a thought.. Porter |

SPDIF is steros, so you can transfer two tracks at a time. Make the Yammie your digital master, and away you go. Because it is digital, you won't lose any quality.

Tried the Digital in/out and hard pan left and right for two track recording, and that looks like it is going to do the trick.
Now I am just running into a little stuttering. When I turned off all the input/output drivers except the digital in and out, that seemed to help. I would like to get the bit rate and depth up as high as possible so any recommendations on bit settings or driver type to use would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone for your advice.

Are you using only one sound card? I had something similar when i was recording on one card and listening to play back on another.. if you can, only use one card, or if you have to use 2, make sure you can sync them together.
Just a thought.. Porter |

I have two cards. A Gina20 and a Soundblaster Live, but I'm only using the gina for recording.

I changed the driver in Sonar to ASIO and that allowed me to record via the spdif at 24bit/44.1.
I didn't lose any sound quality, but I couldn't figure out how the to sync the tracks. I was getting a sync error on the DAW unit, but with no idea what I was doing I just had to be happy that I was able to record all the tracks before giving it back. Now all i have to do is find the easiest way to sync up the tracks again and I'll be in business!
