Do a search on latency.

sequence_man, what do you think the pros at this forum do, watch grass grow? Every page here is free and if you need individual consulting there's always Rent-A-Dragon. http://homerecording.com/consulting.html

Brickhouse the problem you are experiencing is called latency as Garry says and it is probably caused from using the usb port(slow) and your computer to monitor. To reduce the latency, go to your audio system setup and choose a lower sampling rate and/or go to the advanced options and check your drivers and buffers. If you monitor from the headphone output of the Lexicon omega interface you should get no latency.

What I do is just turn the volume of the channel your recording into down. If you can hear the sound from some other source besides your pc speakers that is.
