soundcard does not support stereo?

I have SBlab card (1 in 3 out) and when i start sonar it says that it wont support stereo so i must use mono...when recording on sonar this means i cannot pann my tracks (i think)....but i have a behringer mixer so if i pan my tracks on that will my recordings be stereo
(would i need a Y jack)?....also...is the only way to get stereo capabilities through a better PCI card?...thanks...i would really like more room to work on the stereo field...

a soundcard that doesn't support stereo. thats nuts. i'm not sure what to tell you, except you might want to upgrade to a new soundcard. I recommend the Santa Cruz by Turtle Beach. thats just my opinion though.

I just looked at the santa cruz and i dont get it....where are the inputs.....pshhh....i dont understand this crap....IF i get a card with a 4x 1/4 inch inputs and output break out box and i want stereo from my mixer do i just occupy two ofthe input?....if someone could help me understand audi cards that would be a big help

This is a driver issue. See if you can use the Soundblaster driver that is supplied with Windows, rather than the one from Creative Labs (or try and get an updated driver from Creative).

Typically you can use the MS driver by going into Control Panel and "rolling back" to an earlier driver version. That should fix the problem.

If the input is a "Line" input, it is a stereo input.

If you want to record from two separate sources, you are going to need a splitter (Y) cable. The leg of the Y will probably need to have a 1/8" stereo mini-plug which will plug into your sound card. The two branches will need to match whatever it is you are plugging in (e.g., 2 mono 1/4" phone plugs).

Time to see your friendly Radio Shack salesman.

unless you are recording two different sources (acoutic guitar and vocals or something), there really isn't much point in recording in stereo. I record almost everything in mono as there is no point to having two tracks with the same info on them. when you mix your song, pan each track where you want it and export your song as a stereo mix.

I agree with the above, with one caveat being if the source is stereo, i.e., the output of a stereo effects unit or a synth that outputs with stereo effects (pretty much most newer workstations). In those cases, you probably want to record in stereo.
