I'm uneducated and curious (bad combination)

What would happen if I plugged the tape outputs of my guitar amp into my soundcard instead of micing the amp?

Strangely enough, the signal would be routed to the input of your soundcard allowing you to record it (with the proper software).

However, it likely will NOT sound like what you'd get if you mic'd the cabinet.

Yeah that's what I figured. Just wanted to make sure I wont fry anything if I get bored and decide to try it.

Just keep the master volume under control till you know how hot the signal is that leaves the tape outs.
