Hey i was listening to this bowie record called "Scary Monsters and super creeps" and i was wondering how to get that plastic snare sound...I mean it sounds thick but it also sounds plastic if that makes anysense....I also hear it in alot of cars songs and psychedelic furs....does anybody know how i can achieve this sound...or any suggestions or does anybody no what the hell im talking about?

I believe they were simmons drums. Simmons was an early electronic drum maker known for their stop sign shaped drums.

you might be talking about that gated reverb that was so often used in the 80's.
It adds reverb, but then cuts it off real quick instead of letting it decay slowly.

The reason for this is so that all the decaying drum sounds won't overlap and create all sorts of muddiness.
