B.L.U.E. The Ball for drums

I am wondering, could i use "The Ball" as an overhead? I love the way they look and suposedly sound very good.

Thnx

You could use it - You might not like it though.

Have you tried using the Blue as a kick drum mic?

I have one of them, but I haven't been able to get a decent sound from it with the kick drum.

I have a blue ball, it has a very dark low sound. It would be pretty crappy as an overhead (it is a dynamic mic). The best application would be kick or toms. I don't like it on snare too much either.

I like a real open, jazz drum sound - think the opposite of any pop music for the last 10 years. I think it sounds fine on kick, gives a nice low boost. I have never had a mic that is made for kick though.

Don't forget, it claims to be "the worlds first phantom powered dynamic microphone" so make sure your turn on your phantom power.

Has anybody tried it on the kick? I've used the AKG D112 with much better results than the BLUE Ball, probalby because the Blue ball drops off at around 100Hz. Still need to try a few different things with it on the kick, otherwise I will be returning it and going with the D112.
