texturing your music

this kinda goes along with the thread above it called "How complex is your music", but i make some odd music, and it doesn't seem to have that many tracks. i know more tracks don't equal betterness, but it seems like i can't focus enough to texture my music like other producers. A good example is the album "Haunted", by Poe. it's texturing is amazing, and i can't match it at all. Is it just because i'm young and inexperienced, or should i have a good sense of music from the beginning. this is kind of me expressing major insecurities, but i just don'[t feel my music is complex enough, it's so simple, drums, bass, and a synth. maybe guitar. any comments or suggestions.

I think complexity, texturing and all of that business should be dictated first by your abilities, and second by the song itself. But it all requires a keen ear that you have to develope through experience. That alone will tell you when you need to add a little guitar lick here or some keyboards there. You can listen to your favorite CD and get some ideas, but it all pretty much is based on your abilities and the experience behind you. This is of course, only my humble and inexperienced opinion...

I'm exactly where you are, and I think that Rockett has it down - something you learn by playing and playing with stuff, doing your own experiments etc. Good luck, keep pushing it. If I figure anything out - I'll share it.

LN
ps: I'm OLD and inexperienced - imagine how that is!

One thing I think you gotta remember is that simple doesn't always equal bad - Robart Johnson's stuff has more power than a lot of other music made after it, and it's just him and a guitar . . . IMHO

Good point, and one I was trying to make, but somehow I trailed off the target and hit the chicken coop....

Thanks for adding that in!
