Work with us here, sk8. We need a little more to go on.

The fast tapping could be a metronome. Is it in time to the music?

The echo could be Input Monitoring. Does it happen while you are recording only?

Please provide as much info as you can. How many tracks in the project? Midi and Audio? How is the midi being played, soft synths? What is your sound card. Etc.

I am using a m-audio mobilePre. I am not using the metronome. When im recording and monitoring it it sounds fine. When i play back it i hear tapping and sounds sort of distorted. The sound isn't clear.

I'd start by deleting the aud.ini file then let the application "re-evaluate" the audio card. I've had that sort of thing when the "Playback Timing Master", "Record Timing Master" don't match for the actual device(s) you're trying to use (see the "Options -> Audio" tab). Also make sure that all your tracks are set up to record and play back. I usually have the track inputs match the recording audio interface (duh) and the out put for each of the tracks going to busses then the busses going to the Master...the master output needs to be the same as the "Playback Timing Master".

The point I'm trying to make is be sure that your not trying to mix functions or features between two different audio cards.

Are you recording through one card and playing back through another card?

As Sonar doesn't like it too much

Just a thought..
