How do I get started

hey i have a room in the back of my house that isnt being used. Im looking to turn it into a place where me and some other bands could record a simple ep. Im currently in a band, and I just need a place to get started recording. I dont know what I should get to just start out. i need some advice. Im really worried about recording drums (thats what I play). Im looking to spend as little as possible. What should I look into?

Yo Starting to start but don't be startled:

Before you jump in, check out an electronic music course at a junior college in your home town or a college that offers one.

This way you would be exposed to some type of recording gear and get an idea, from the other students and teachers, of what you will need to do what you would like to do.

And, you will find some students very talented and willing to help.

Go out there and do it.

In my opinion, if you don't have a clue, your best bet is to check out a local studio and book some time. There is a ton of things to consider when converting a space into a studio. More than I could ever touch on here, but the main one being noise: both coming into and out of your space. You have to deal with sound isolation, room treatment, and the gear you will need to capture your sound.

A studio will already have that in place, and they are professionals. If you rehearse your songs so that you can play them cold, go in well rested and sober, you can get a few songs done in as many hours.

Just my two cents.

If you are adament about building your own space, like Idgeit asked, what is your budget?

my budget right now, which I know i cant do much with, is $2000. I just want something too help me learn the basics. Then I will gradually add more to it as I get more money. I may even have a little more than that. Im not sure.

Just look around these forums for a while, and get your head around what your doing, but the best thing to do is just go to a studio and get some time for around $250.
