ramshackality is on a distinguished road
possibly a post mortem...

hey, i bought a 488mkII from a gentleman on ebay, initially i thought the stumbling blocks were my own inability to use the thing having had to upgrade on my shattered fostex x24....however i have a sneaking suspicion that the problems may not just be my technical confusions. when i record say a guitar on track 1 it goes well... but then when i record a vocal on track 2 the recording on one doubles up and records itself onto track 2 also, boosting the levels badly... now is this crosstalk? do i need to clean the heads? all i know is it is really frustrating. also on a few of the tracks, 3,4, and 8 i can hear the instrument when it is set to line in but nothing gets recorded when i try recording. i realise this is most likely a faulty machine i have bought however any feedback would be appreciated. thankyou

You might be inadvertently dubbing the first track over to second track because of a monitoring error on your part.

Getting the manual would be my best recommendation.

Cheers!

Yo Ghost:

You know your toast about the 488.

I think maybe Ramshack.... did not put the recorded track in the CUE mode before trying to dub.

I had a couple of 488s, good SIAB and a good learning tool.

Always enjoy reading your expertise.

Arrow Yo,... ditto that!

It just sounds like our friend is not using the CUE system properly, ... & therefore is getting unwanted bleed & track-bounce. It's a very common mistake for new Portastudio users.

Thanx for the PDF link to the 488mkII manual! That'll always come in handy!
