488 488 mkII, what does it mean?

Hi everyone, i'm fairly new to the recording scene and there's a Tascam 488 i have my eye on. It's pretty cheap. But i've been hearing alot about the 488 mk II. Can anyone tell me the difference? should i get a MkII instead? Thanks!

The MkII model has a couple of additions to it, methinks one of them is phantom power and maybe XLR inputs....can't remember but I had each one of those models.

Basically, they work about the same. They are nice SIAB if you get one that doesn't have beer spilled down the faders or the heads are shot.

As I gaze at the MKII manual, a drawing of the unit shows two XLR inputs and there is a phantom power switch on the back of the unit just noted in another schematic drawing.

You'll have fun with the box and it is a good one to get started on.
