-=¤willhaven¤=- will become famous soon enough
"dig in" has got to be the most uninspired repititious song ever. "fly away" makes me want to drink bleach.

the only decent song i heard from him was the first i heard. "are you gonna go my way" wasnt amazing but it definitely wasnt a bad song.

i think the guy is a master in the studio. sure some of his songs aren't your bag but the guy has put out some good rock-n-roll in an industry dominated by garbage such a britney spears. If you have ever read any interviews regarding his recording skills, the guy has done his homework. MAny of his albums including mama said, circus, and let love rule are great examples of musicianship and recording. I don't hink I've heard anyone come as close as he has to nailing the tone of bonhams snare drum on some of his earlier cuts. Hus use of tape saturation and preamp distortion are really well done. His guitar tones are very well doctored and besides....the guy does it all himself. For those who say he's overrated, I beg to differ. Sure some of his lastest stuff is less than his best. But his latest album, Batism is damn good. He deserves credit even if it's just for being a passionate musician who really gives a crap about writing good songs and bringing them to life on tape.

I agree with everything you said, and also have to add that he's an excellent pop-rock songwriter. He's not "cutting edge" in his lyrics or his riffs, but he has a knack for putting out songs that are snappy and easy to get into from the very first time you hear them. Lenny has also "paid his dues" by hanging in there and plugging away for a long time before he hit the mainstream. Another good thing about Lenny is that he always puts on a good performance... looking as if he really enjoys what he's doing, as opposed to posers like Scott Stapp and the like. The only thing I really haven't liked from Lenny is his remake of American Woman. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can out-sing Burton Cummings on any Guess Who tune. He's one of the greatest voices ever in Rock n' Roll. Lenny should've left that one alone.

Yeah he's got catchy hooks, great tone, yada yada...

I don't like his Dave Navarro attitude that seems to keep him from wearing a shirt with buttons...

And the Gap commercials with Sarah "Skank in the City" Jessica Parker were downright embarassing and overplayed....

I think some of tones who pulls off are great (this is a recording forum isnt it? ), and I like "Mama Said" as an album. The rest I couldn't care for, but that one is actually very good. A good mix of funk, soul and rock. Is he overrated? I dunno, who said he was great? His lead guitar player is as good as they come. As far as his commercials and such, I think it kind of fits him. He seems like a bit of a diva.

I agree...what else is going on in the pop/rock scene?

I think he's got an original sound...which has much to do with the way he's produced. I like his sound. Not enough to actually buy his CD, but enough to crank the stereo when he's on.

I'll admit hes not a bad musician, but I would agree that he's definitely overrated as far as his ability at playing guitar.

If he is still around when he is as old as Carlos Santana, then I'll say he wasn't overrated, for now I think he is getting a little extra hype. Whatever the reason, he sells a lot of cds so he must be doing something right.

He's not out to be an innovator or a shredder, he simply plays for the song.

I think he's overrated but I got respect for him any ways. You can't hate a guy for being successful. I don't consider him the God-like status like some people do, he's a great song writer good musician.

Let Love Rule is a great album. Mama Said and Are You Gonna Go My Way are great songs. End of story.

While he may have producing skills, as a songwriter/musician, Kravitz does absolutely nothing for me. I think he's vastly overrated. Don't like any of his songs. I change the station when he's on the radio. To me, he's always come across as a Hendrix wannabe but without the writing ability or the chops. All JMO

I've never been able to get past that and take an objective look at the guy. He just butchered that song bad.

Why does a comment like this always get thrown out when someone expresses a negative opinion about someone rich and famous? I know your comment was not directed at me, and I'm sure you mean "musical" success ('cause like many here, I could list my accomplishments that would probably whoop Lenny's ass in the more important areas of life successes). But there's one thing I DO know. Although I chose a different vocation to be successful at, I may seem bold, but MY songwriting is better than Lenny's. I'm just not the personality type to have sought the limelight, adulation (or excessive wealth). I'm happy. Some people like Lenny a lot. That's their opinion. I think he is mediocre at best as a songwriter/musician. JMO.

Hey this is pretty fun. I can dis Lenny and score points at the same time.

Some of his tunes OK and some are truely awful like that one "Fly Away", big hit none the less.

He can cop those '60's and early '70's grooves and feels but after a while, so what?

Funny you should say that, because I'm smarter and and have better business sense than Donald Trump, but I choose to remain poor and insignificant because I don't like being in the spotlight and having to worry about the billions of dollars I've amassed. I mean, who needs those kind of headaches, right?
