Cool Under Rated Drummers!

So put some names down! We need drummers that are great but get little to no credit for being great.

I guess i'll do it now - Ringo gets a lot of undeserved flack. There, said it, let's move on.

Phil Rudd-AC/DC (master of simplicity)
Tim "Herb" Alexander-Primus (he's a pretty creative drummer and has great feel even in odd times)

I learnt a lot from Mr. Alexander, mostly because i was at an impessionable age when i was listening to Primus.

Charles Hayward from This Heat and Camberwell Now. Not really Under-rated, just under-heard. Amazing drummer.

I guess if you've heard someone calling a particular drummer under-rated, that counts. Although that line of thinking probably makes every drummer in the world the best, worst, tightest and sloppiest player ever. We can argue it once it's posted.

It seems like Drumming is underrated to the world. So in the drumming/music community.

The youngsters in here are probably gonna pummel me for this, but Danny Seraphine was a highly underrated, and seriously overlooked, rock and jazz drummer before Chicago turned into a bunch of sell out weenees.

I'd like to throw in Matt Cameron.
Underrated by everyone else, not community.

I think the drummer of "Billy Talent" is pretty good, he's not real technical
but thats what makes him good, I hate "showy" drummer's.

budgie from siouxsie and the banshees/creatures

not necessarily underrated, but charlie watts doesnt seem to get the accolades that the bonham/starr/moon trinity receives. he is just as important to his band's sound and success.

Bill Bruford is one of my favourite drummers, the stuff he does on "Starless and Bible Black" is amazing, i particularly like the track "Fracture", has perhaps my favourite fill of all time. Does anyone else have a favourite drum-fill? Tell me i'm not that sad and lonely.

Phil Rudd, and Matt Cameron are great picks. I'll add Frank Beard (listen to ZZ Top's Tejas, hopefully a version before all that dreaded reverb was added to it....)

i definitely agree that morgan is sometimes overlooked. he is phenomenal, especially in the early albums. No one ever mentions gene hoglin. that guy is amazing, listen to any song on Deaths "Symbolic" album, its great. I hate limp bizkit, but John Otto is a good drummer and its too bad his talent is overshadowed by a douche-bag like fred durst. Dave lombardo is excellent but i never hear anyone mention him. And lastly, this may get a good laugh but "Smitty" from the tonight show along with Max Weinberg from Conans Show are both great i love to watch them play. Also death metal drummers get no respect but the deserve every bit of it those blast beats and crazy doubles arent easy.

I'll second Dave Lombardo, I've always preferred his style over Paul Bostaff.
I also enjoyed his playing on the Grip Inc. stuff, it's too bad that the actual songs weren't half as good.

Hmm John Otto good....I guess it depends on what your definition of good is. Yeah he can carry a beat, but by all means he is someone that should not be recgonized as "Under-Rated". He is what he is and that is nothing special.
