Post easy monitor question

I have recently started to step my music up to the next level and am starting to finally be very happy with the results I am getting. I am using a combination of reason 2.5, fl studio 5, and cubase sx to make some low bass heavy (20 - 100hz) music. I also play guitar and sing and would like my setup to be adequate for an electro rock fusion type thing that I am going to start doing. I had been using my computer speakers and sub and also a expensive pair of sony dj headphones to create my tracks but everyone here knows these things are not sufficent.

I will get to the point... I have about $400 - $500 to spend on monitors. I am doing all this in my bedroom which is about 12 X 12. I have some event tr5-n's on order as I really liked the crisp sound they have. I should have done more research though as I have found that for accurate bass response, I need at least an 8 inch speaker. Do I return the tr5's and get some base level 8" speakers? Which ones? Do I keep the speakers and then get a sub? Which sub? I live in a condo so I can rarely get very loud. Moderate levels are ok(before 10). I would like a solid, even sound that is accurate even at moderate to low levels... HELP!!! Thank you

You probably know this but Bass/low end is incrediblly hard to accurately monitor in a small room. Larger woofers are in order for this type of stuff but at the same time that means your putting more bass into the room. You didn't mention if you had any treatment (bass traps etc...)? Even with good treatment a small room is not ideal. I know we all do the best that we can with what we have. Something to think about before you spend more money though....

hmmm....

well unfortunately,

the room is my bedroom. It contains a bed and a bunch of wood furniture. It is the only place I have right now. I am going to get a new desk so I possibly will have some room for 8 inch speakers. Do you think I should just invest in some of those or is a subwoofer more well suited for this situation?

if you go with 8´´ woofers you have to use them all time in your small room. You can use a sub if you need it.

I would definatley say get a sub. You can determine the volume on it, so it just affects the lows. getting two speakers with 8 inch woofers would force you to use eq to turn the bass up or down, which is a nono.
