Headphones?
i have a three person band and i plan on buy the behringer headphone amp.. what do you guys think that the best pair(s) of headphones would be just for hearing purposes? for example if the guitar player couldnt hear himself becuase the drums were so loud then he would use what pair of headphones?

If isolation is a big concern then there's the Extreme Isolation Headphones... Warren at Front End Audio carries them.....
If power handling is a concern (ie - handling loud levels without breaking-up) then the only one is the Audio Technica ATH-M40fs - handles 3 times the power of any other can.....

Ya im also in the same boat but im a drummer and i need to be able to hear the guitar when im tracking, I want very isolated headphones with high volume becouse high volume alone is not good for the health of my already damaged ears, I was looking at the akg k171s wat does anybody think?

You guys kill me........
As far as I know, there is no headphone that has better isolation than the Extreme Isolation cans -- you get those if you need to block out the sound in the room you're recording in.... they sound perfectly fine, but for monitoring, who the hell cares anyways???? Are you a fuckin' diva??? You're tracking drums for chris'sakes!!! ![]() Also as far as I know, the Audio-Technica's that I mentioned are the only ones rated to handle 1.2 watts rather than the 300-600 milliWatts the other cans can handle. If you have good isolation, you don't need them loud..... and vice versa..... to save your ears, you're better off getting cans with good isolation rather than cans than you can crank.................

They are not Extreme Isolation, heck they isolate okay and you can push them until you go deaf (pretty loud). $30 w/ shipping for the regular $35 w/shipping for the Deluxe. The rest, check out Harvey's site. Otherwise Blue Bear already told you the stuff to get. He's a pro, has tried (several different brands) probably all of them, and knows what works.

Thanks for the links and recommendations for the MoreMe cans, guys. I'm kinda afraid to post anything around here anymore.

Sorry, dude, I was just trying to find you a store that might ship the Extreme Isolations to Ireland. You could always contact Harvey Gerst and see how much it would cost him to ship you a pair of his MoreMe phones. They are only $30 US, and the shipping can't be that outrageous from Texas, right? |

I got some of the Extreme Isolation headphones and they are OK. I got them to track drums and also to help in setting up the mic on my guitar cab so I can hear the sweet spot. But....my drummer prefers his in-ear headphones along with some regular cheapy headphones over them for extra isolation. This works a little better and is waaay more comfortable. For setting mic placement, they don't really sound good enough to me to find the best spot.
However, they do look fantastically rediculous! Looks kind of like that novelty log-through-the-head gag. |

Just to throw a spanner into the works - I haven't used the Extreme thingies, but the best isolation I've found by a COUNTRY MILE are the Shure E2C earbuds. If you want to spend more, get the E5s, just skip the E3s for definite.
These are the in-ear things you shove right down your canals - you find yourself using a tenth of the volume on your headphone amp because they block so much else out. Awesome - no bleed whatsoever. I have a DJ friend who is being sponsored by Shure now because he raved about them so much. For 'extreme' isolation, stick a pair of regular headphones over the top (not plugged in, just for extra padding) and I guarantee you'll be deaf as a mute, or whatever that saying is.
