US-122 Help

Hey guys,

I just purchased the US-122 and I am already going nuts. I try to play the demo song and all I get is this skipping audio sound. Like a scratched CD.

I also can't even get a signal to the trashy Cubasis program that came with the 122. I can tune my guitar, and monitor through the 122. I just can't get my levels to show up on the ProgramI think the 122 is gonna rock if I can just get it to work!!! Thanks Guys!!!!!!!!!

I remember being very frustrated when I first got my US-122, so, you're not alone (now I love it). The first thing I would do is print out the manual for both the 122 and Cubasis (don't forget to read them, too). Go to the Tascam website and make sure you have the latest ASIO drivers installed.

Connect the 122 and then start Cubasis. Open the Audio Menu --> System. Make sure the ASIO US-122 (16-bit) is selected as your driver (Cubasis only supports 16-bit recording). Click ASIO Control panel and make sure Audio is enabled (Enable MIDI and Audio). Then go to Audio --> Inputs and make sure the little green box next to US-122 A and B is lit up. If not, click it.

Click on the first Audio track in the Arrange window. Select "Enable" on the left-hand side. You will be prompted to select a location to store your audio files. Then open up the Audio-->VST Channel Mixer. Connect something to the US-122's Left input (mic, guitar, etc.). Click the little "In" button on the first mixer channel in Cubasis. Turn up the preamp gain on the 122 and play something. You should "see" the sound on the fader.

That should get you started.

I found that the bundled Cubasis program was very difficult to work with and had such limited capabilities that I was "pissed off" for several months trying to record with it. I moved up to Cubase SE and am much more pleasant now. SE supports 24-bit recording and has up to 48 audio tracks. There are plenty of other (better) software options than Cubasis VST when you decide you are ready to upgrade.

Also, the "skipping" you are hearing may be due to the latency setting/buffer size, which you can adjust in the Audio-->System-->ASIO control panel menu. If you don't have a super fast processor, set it for a larger buffer/longer latency to prevent skipping and pops during recording.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes I am upgrading to a better software program this one sucks. I did manage to record some audio...Finally! But the playback is still skipping. I upped the latency to as large as it would go. That didn't really help. Any other suggestions???

Glad you got it going. Do you have anything else sharing the USB port? If so, disconnect everything else but the 122. Also, what are your computer specs (processor, RAM)? Are you monitoring via the 122 or through speakers connected to your computer? Just grasping here, as I really don't know where your problem is.
