Dynaudio BM6A enigma
Greetings,
I have a very serious and weird problem with my brandnew pair of Dynaudio BM6A nearfield monitors. I use a Yamaha MG16/6FX mixing console (donīt laugh, after buying the BMs my budget was as low as russiaīs) and normally there should be no problem with the monitors when using the +4dBu master out of my mixing console... the BM6 can be switched either to +4dBm or -10dBm input signal. So shouldnīt they work well with both settings like +4dBu (master out, balanced) from the console to +4dBm BM6 amplifier or -10dBu (rec out, unbalanced) form the console to -10dBm BM6 amplifier??? Yes, they should work with both settings and they should sound identically, namely linear. and hereīs my problem: When running with -10dBu the monitors sound different than they do with a +4dBm signal. I didnīt use the false output of the mixer and the input sensitivity switch on the monitors were set correctly. with -10dBu they sound flat but "linear" to the ear and with +4dBu they have much more bass and less high frequencies (???!!!) all of the cables are o.k., I checked them with sophisticated equipment. What the hell is happening here? What is the real linear reference sound? and why do they sound so different? Auriel |
