Question Newbie needs help!!!! Recording with a Korg D8

Hi All;

My hubby & I want to record some original songs using our Korg D8 home studio and our PC running XP.

We are able to get tracks laid down but we are unable to assign separate effects to each track.

When we try to assign effects to one track it becomes effective for all tracks.

As I said we are total newbies at this and would appreciate any comments, links or suggestions.

Many thanks in advance!

You're in the wrong forum; that's digital audio you're talking about there, not MIDI.

Also. I think you need to describe your process. Are you recording some tracks on the D8 and others on the computer? Are you porting tracks recorded on the D8 to the computer to edit them there? Are the effects you're talking about being applied on the D8, or on the computer? Please describe what you're doing thoroughly enough so that someone has a clue where to start with a reply.

Further to my post...

Hi AlChuck;

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was posting in a Newbie forum. This was my first time here, and my first post. Also I we really don't my much at all about using the D8. That is why I chose this forum

Here is the clarification.

All of the tracks are recorded on the D8. We are not using the computer until the final tracks are ready to be burnt on to CD.

All of the effects and editing are to be done only on the D8. (We don't have a clue where to start with the computer except to use Audactity to make the files compatable to burn on CD's.)

I really appreciate your answer and I will put future posts to the digital forum.

Thanks again!

I don't know the D-8, but I gather it's limited to only one effect being usable at a time.

How are you recording tracks? Building them up one by one, or all at once? If the former, you can patch in the effect you want and then bounce to another track. Of course this means that the effect will be "printed," and you can't change it later. But if only one effect can be used at at a time, then there's really no other choice other than the traditional approach -- patch the direct outs through a mixer and use the mixer and outboard effects to craft a stereo master, or transfer the tracks to your computer and edit them there. The latter will be the most cost-effective since you already have the computyer, and you said you have Audacity on it, right?

D8 Effects

Hi AlChuck;

I would be very surprised if you can only use 1 effect for the whole song based on the complexity of the other funtions available on the D8.

We are recording the tracks one by one. ie. First a click track, then bass, then guitar and finally vocals.

Yes, we do have audacity on the computer. Last night we were able to take tracks from the D8 and export them to MP3. Yahoo!!! !

However, we have not experiemnted with the effects in the Audactity program. Are you saying that it might be possible to edit each track with an effect in Audacity?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Cheers!

It doesn't seem that unbelieveable to me...

Well, I'm unfamiliar with Audacity's features, but yes, it's very likely that it's entirely possible.
