Haroon is on a distinguished road
Monitors and subwoofer

Hi there I have been using Genelac 1031A's powered monitors for the last couple of years. I am a full time singer/performer so the only time that I actually sit in my private studio is to work on my albums. I live in Pakistan and due to the lack of experience and knowledge in the recording engineer field i find working in my own studio produces better results than renting out the best studio in the country.

The biggest problem that I have when mixing on my speakers is getting the low end right. I have read that top mixing engineers state that you can only really get a good low end mix on far field monitors.

I was at a friends recording studio in the UK recently and he had set-up a sub woofer with his genelac monitors. He conviced me that this is the way to go and the trend. So i purchased the genelac 7070A subwoofer. I just unwrapped it from its packing and it is huge. I am wondering if I made the right decision. Someone else was suggesting that 7070A would mainly be used in a 6.1 surround set-up.

Anyone else out there with any experience using subwoofers with their monitors or have knowledge on the subject.

Thanks

A sub could help, and I'm a big fan of larger, full-range loudspeakers for sure...

The Genelec 1031's are a decent sized box, though - Translation with them should be pretty good in a well-treated room.

I'd look at the sound of the room first. What've you got in the way of acoustic treatment and bass trapping?
