a pretty big question

well i've heard so many things about the steps of recording. ive heard people mention mixing tracking mastering and so forth. So if some one could tell me the order in which all of these steps go and possibly what you do during these steps. that would be great! thanks

Tracking is the process of recording sound sources - it's the 1st step....

Mixing is the blending of 2 or more recorded sound sources to a 2-track mixdown recorder - it's the 2nd step....

Mastering is the process of polishing the mix in prepation for its release - it's the 3rd (and final) step in the process.....

There's a fourth step, not always used but useful on occassion: It's called starting over.
