Question ArtistLaunch.com ?

Hi,

Found here http://www.armydiller.com/musichosting.htm

Are some of you know about this site http://www.ArtistLaunch.com ?

They make free CD design, free mastering / EQ. They burn your songs on Cd and ship to customers. They keeps first $5.50 of CD sale. The initial cost is $40.00 a year

On http://www.CdBaby.com you make your Cd's, ship to them and they keep $4.00 of CD sale. The initial cost is $35.00 forever.

If we calculate $1.00 for making each Cd + shipment to CdBaby we are close to $5.50.

Now which one of those two sites have the biggest customers affluence ?

A few thoughts:

First, anyone who designs your CD for you is going to do a poor job unless you're paying them well or they have some other committment to your work (such as a fan or friend).

Second, I have found that unless you're selling so many CDs that you either don't have time to fulfill orders or it isn't worth your time, then you'll be much better off doing it yourself. Read a post I wrote on this a while back here: http://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=99091

Third, If you're expecting these sites to market your music then you may be disappointed. They don't put a lot of energy into marketing clients who don't already sell. If you expect a lot of people to listen to your music on their site then it may be a good investment, but don't expect it unless you have reason to.

I think a good point is made in the thread I linked to, that if you think you will at least make your money back using the online services you may as well do it. You will make your music available to a larger audience in the process. However, I believe that as an independent musician you will always be your best promoter. Don't anticipate exposure to come from it unless you're putting the time in yourself.

Serge--haven't heard of that ArtistLaunch, but quite a few people here seem to like CDBaby. Usually, the folks on this BBS are pretty quick to point out anything fishy or scammy and they do it with a vengeance. I haven't seen anything negative on CDBaby, so that should speak volumes right there.

Thanks Purge,

CdBaby was my first choice till I heard about ArtistLaunch. I also like their easy navigation through the windows. Many sites architectures (like ArtistLaunch) lack simplicity. Finally CdBaby will remain my target.
