What are the best mics for recording stereo live performances of small classical and jazz ensembles?

good question!! fortunately, i think i have an answer...get two good small diaphram condensers (a matched pair is best); some good mics are A-T C-87's, or AKG C-1000, there are many others; then use the two mics on a stereo bar in XY or another configuration...pan them left and right and enjoy the results!!!
