Otari MX-70 8 track
I am interested in getting one of these as I see one for sale in my city and I want to know the price you all would pay? I have heard these are really good machines. The thing is huge and I just want to know general pros and cons aside from upkeep costs that will probably kcik me in the ass later on...but back to the topic at hand...
What would you pay if it was in great condition? I will post the pics that he has of the machine. It also has all the cables needed to hook it up. I am dead serious about this because I like to just record acoustic guitar with a good amount of over dubs and this is really making me drool. ![]()

See: http://www.prepal.com/data/Otari.htm
This indicates street price of the Otari MX70 is $1409, and declining. Seeing as this unit seems to be in excellent condition, $1400 seems fair. ![]() |

I paid $1800 for mine, before out-of-state shipping charges.
Luckily the seller picked up 2/3 of the shipping as he had connections with a local shipping Co. If your prospect is local to you you're definitely ahead of the game a little. Of course... try to pay as little as possible ![]() |

I would kiss a fat babies butt to find one of those in my area that clean.
I am a real 8 track fan. For myself I would be willing to put out 2000.00 or more as long as the machine was 100% For me 8 tracks on 1 inch tape would just be the cats ass! |

If I had 2 grand I might. But I don't. Anyways, its missing the cue button on the machine, but it is still usable because he says the remote overrides the machine...I think he just means that it still works in one form...but who knows. It would be nice to use either the machine or the remote as needed because I would probably have to put the thing in another room because I don't believe it is going to be the most quiet piece of equipment I own...thats just a hunch... ![]() |

Well I didn't win. It went for just a hair under $1200. A bit more than I had to offer.
![]() Oh well. Thanks for the info. |

I have one myself
You guys are all going to kil me but, I just picked up a 16 track MX70 for $200 a couple days ago here in Salt Lake City. The thing has very low hours and looks almost new. Also, it came with 2 16ch 8' Mogami/Neutrik XRL snakes, a remote w/ wheeled stand, 5 EDAC snakes, service manual and assorted other cabling. The cables alone are worth moree than the $200 I paid. I fired it up last night and...........oh the swet sound of analog!
Cheers, Zach |

Desk to go with MX70
I know this is a little off topic, but I just picked up a Ramsa WR-t820B today to go with this machine and my Cubase SX set up. Ahhhhhh.......... Real faders!
Cheers, Zach

If anyone wants an MX70, I've seen one here earlier today:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OTARI-8-TRACK-...QQcmdZViewItem ..it appears to be a reconfigured 16-track unit. £420 Earth pounds, and very, very heavy. Although the buyer claims to post worldwide, it would probably not be a good idea. The machine is in the UK, not sure exactly where. (It doesn't say anything about the condition of the machine either, come to think of it) |
