Fr Loops/VST

Hi - I'm just starting w VST's now & see that Fruity Loops is listed as a DXI plug in. Is there anything different that can be done with it as a DXI than I did as a stand alone app? Can it be used as a midi sound generator for midi music created in a different software? Thanks
