Inserting and Moving Tracks

Is there any way in Cool Edit Pro to move or insert tracks?

To move in multitrack hold down the right mouse button on the track and drag to new position.

To insert, right click --> Insert on the track you want to insert the new file onto.

How do I get insert to work? If I right click, the insert option is always unavailable. Will insert place a new empty track in between two other occupied tracks?

Dragging the file doesn't actually move the track, it only moves the wave. I want to be able to move the wave along with all the track settings and other information.

It doesn't appear that Cool Edit allows for easy track organization.

No it wont place a new track. It allows to insert a waveform onto a track.

Oh ok now i understand. To move tracks with their settings left click on the part of the track that has all the volume,pan,in/out info on the left of screen and just drag the track to the new position.

What version are able to do that with? It won't do it for me. I also tried it along with alt, shift or control, the tracks just won't budge. I'm using 2.0.

I'm beginning to think it's time to look for another multi track program. It's a decent program except that it won't let me move, insert or delete tracks. I just want to be able to easily organize things.

Thanks for trying to help.

I there is no inserting or deleting the actual tracks, there's always 128 of 'em, but you can move the waveblocks to different tracks, the ability to move the tracks around was in the older version (1.2a?), and had been removed in the 2.0 release, then added back in the 2.1 update due to user requests.

I'm pretty sure that everybody who purchased the 2.0 release was entitled to the 2.1 update, as well as Adobe Audition 1.0 (just about the same as CEP 2.1), when the program was sold to Adobe.

"It's a decent program except that it won't let me move, insert or delete tracks."

It'll let you do these things, alright - the problem is that you haven't figured out how to do it. All versions of Cool Edit and Audition do these things - they're basic. If your program isn't performing these functions, then it's faulty or needs reinstalling.

For inserting, try this procedure: in Multitrack open your session. Click on Insert>Wave from File, and then find the track you want to insert in the popup window. Select it and click Open. The track will appear in your Multitrack session. You'll have to line it up in the correct postion after that.

Aah ha! I thought it could be done in older versions. Thanks for clearing things up.
