Drums in "Stereo" from mixer to computer?

yeh so how do i get my drums sent to my computer with a stereo signal instead of a mono signal. i got a crate csm12 mixer theres ike a tape out and a bunch of Aux sends and a PFL output? i dunno what half of it does. i got the mixer from ebay and there was no manual.

please help

If your Crate mixer is powered don't bother unless you know for absolutely sure that you're not using a powered output. If it's not, you will want to use the master outputs. Assuming you're trying to get into your computer via a normal soundcard, all you need to do is get the two outputs of your mixer into the one trs 1/8 line input of your soundcard. A sort of Y cable with 2 female XLR's (probably 1/4" if you don't have XLR outs for mains) on one end, and a single 1/8" jack on the other side that will carry both left and right outputs of your mixer into your computer. The rest is all stuff you'll need to setup properly in the software you're using.

alright kool. but will any regular trs cable work? is there different mono and stero cables? i was just using a guitar patch chord to make it goto the computer. i thought they had like 2 black rings on them if they were stero cables and only 1 if its mono. got one of those Y 1/4" splitter things. so if i use the y splitter and a patch chord and and 1/4 to 1/8 connecter peice then it will be stero in the computer?

Stereo Jacks have 2 black rings round, Mono have just the one. So you want a Y Splitter with 2 Mono jacks at the end. How many channels does your mixer have? It seems easier to mic the drum kit up using more than one microphone, then you have a better sound and you have more control over the recorded stuff. You can easily pan each part of the kit to either left or right then to create a nice bit of surround sound.

But yeah, if you only have one mic, then the Y splitter cable is right. It will be then stereo in your computer.
