Mic Iso Setup

We all know that a cranked tube amp creates good sound, and I want to try to find a way to do this. I was thinking of the following as a way to properly isolate the amp. The room that I record in sits directly above two other spaces: Basement and the bulkhead. The latter is a 5X5X7 foot space that we use to bring in wood and such. I was thinking of putting the amp and/or speaker in there, miking it, then running a long mike cable up through the floor into the control room and to the interface. Anyone see any problems with this? First, I have two questions:
1.) The bulkhead is made of solid concrete, with a wooden door sealing it from the basement. Will this adversly affect the sound in any way?
2.) Would there be any problem with getting an extra long Speaker cable and running that to the amp head, which I could then keep in the control room as well so I could more easily make adjustments, etc.?

Thanks a lot,
Matt
