Just wondering...

Is it better to record drums on a platform or just on the floor?,... Why?

I guess its a matter of prefrence , some might like the sound better on the floor than on a platform, then again i am a keyboard player.

One advantage of a platform is you can lay down a sheet of rubber underneath and help isolate the noise. That's the beauty of drums, they're so 'kin loud

For me the main thing is to put the drums in the center of the room, they sound best there and it's a lot easier to get around them for mike placement and such.

risers help eliminate floor rumble from the drums, if thats a problem.

Cloneboy Studio will become famous soon enough
I like to isolate my drums from the floor using either a mat, carpet or platform (one studio I go to has a big wooden stand that is acoustically isolated). Personally I never put my drums in the center of the room, but I back them into a corner--it beefs up the low end.

But I like *LIVE* drums, and lately I've been avoiding the use of plugin reverb on drums.
