Monitor / Patch Bay
Can I run the outs from my power amp (75 watts per side) to my patch bay, connect my speakers ( 2 sets) to the patch bay and use the bay to go back and forth between my different monitors. Will this set up affect any of the other equipment connected to the patch bay?
Thanks for the help. |

Samson makes a C- Control that you can run three sets of monitors and a talk back. Inexpensive solution.

Big Kenny,
Thanks for the reply...I went to the link and the reviews for the C-Control were not very good. I was hoping I could just use my patch bay...any problems with doing this? |

C-control is designed to be installed Pre-Amplification and fed with line level signals.
Provided each pair of inputs and outputs on your patchbay are completely isolated cards (Including Groud), it wouldn't necassarily affect other items on your patchbay. However I would recommend you build a simple switch box. Quite simply a pair of inputs for your amp wired to as many pairs of outputs as you have speakers, with a switch for each set speakers (essentially the same thing as Home stereo receiver amps use to select between multiple speakers hooked up to them). You could build it for dirt cheap money with parts from radioshack or equivalent. Real Simple!!!

NO! Do not run power through your patchbay! What you need is a speaker switch box.

Don't do it.The cross talk will suck and when you change speakers you will be running the amp without a load and shorting the outputs of the amp while you plug and unplug. Get a switch.

additional question,
what do u guys do: hook up your (active Event Tr8) monitors directly to your Soundcard (motu 828 with a nice volume control button on the front) or do you connect your soundcard -- mixer -- monitors ? right now i got my Motu connected to my mixer first, this is handy for controlling the volume, but i think this doesn't give me thé cleanest sound since my mixer is years and years old so how is your setup ? thx

Thanks for the info regarding the patch bay. Speaker switching boxes..which one should I get...one that is transparent. I just want to be able to check my mixes on more than one set of speakers, so I need a switch that doesn't add anything to the signal.

Presonus Central Station..... it's a bit more than a switchbox, but it is transparent.
