Custom Built Gear

This is just a curiosity of mine. If a person has an idea of the perfect piece of gear, but can't find that it already exists, where can you go to get it made? Do you just have to pitch the idea to everybody and see who'll bite? My particular idea exists, but not with the exact specs I'd like it to have. I wouldn't want to assume that manufacturers such as FMR, Great River, Chandler, etc. do this kind of thing but, would they? Anybody know a custom gear builder?

It really depends on what you want built... tube, solid state, compressor, mic-pre, guitar amp, monitor switcher... yeah, there are lots of guys that do "custom work"... but you have to pick the right guy for the job.
