MIDI through serial port??

hey all, i have a quick question. Is it possible to run MIDI through the serial port on my computer or would i have to use a usb interface. my computer dosen't have a joystick port, so just wondering if the serial port would work. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This site may help you answer that question based on what connector you have and driver. Setup #3 deals directly with the serial port.
