multitrack through___to cdr

Hello all,
I am currently going out of my fostex (finished mixes) into a mixer then into a cd recorder. I was wondering what would be a good replacement for the mixer.. something other than a mixer I would think that would be simple to set before going onto cdr. I'm sure there are a lot of options I don't have a lot to spend right now. But, your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Or, a good small mixer. I just need something stereo...
thanks everyone... I always get a lot of info on this forum....

Yo EVT, I don't get it. What fostex? You should have 2 -10 dBu line outs, which should go straight to the CD recorder line in. What's the mixer for?-Richie

Hi Richard,
I have a fostex vf16 and Iike eq'ng on the overall mix a bit before going into cdr, and also it seems to warm up the mix and smooths out the edginess. I am looking at 2 channel eq's, but I can't spend too much. Any suggestions? Toft ATC-2? Langevin? It's pretty much for post production/eq.
thanks evt

Well, the Toft or the new Joemeek twinQ would certainly give you better pres and EQ than almost any mixer. It would also give you a better front end for the Fostex. My guess is that if you wind up applying compression to the mix, the Toft's compressor would be better than the twinQ, which is colored, and good for tracking lots of stuff. Yeah, I think the Toft would be a great box for micro-mastering.-Richie

Thanks Richard,
It's just all I have as per eq'ng that's why I was using a mixer. I recently got a safesound p1 and I love it. It's helped everything a great deal. I'm using a studioprojects b1 for vocals. sm57 to mic guitar amp and b1 further back. I have been recording for a while, but before mostly direct into a multitrack. I am just beginning to learn about other kinds of equipment to be utilized in specific areas, as well as learning different recording techniques.

I am a NYC elementary school teacher... not a rich lady, so I'm looking out for budget equipment that works nicely. The safesound was an excellent purchase!
