Question Question about firewire...

Hi! I just got a new PC and I'm looking to start producing music, and record mixes to my PC from my turntables. I know I need an upgraded sound card. I wasn't sure what the difference between a sound card and firewire was. Do I need a sound card for the firewire, or can I just use a firewire? This is what I'm interested in getting, but I don't know if I need an upgraded sound card to hook this up, or if this will act as an upgraded sound card.

If all I need is the firewire, please let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it!

No extra sound card needed with this. It acts as a sound card for you and connects to your pc with a Firewire cable. Just make sure you either have an existing firewire connection on your PC or else you will have to buy a Firewire PCI card at Bestbuy or something.

Question About Firewire Input

Currently I use my digital 8-track as a mixer which I run my mic'ed signals through prior to sending 2 live tracks out of the optical pipeline to my soundcard's optical input. I use Audition 1.5 to mix/edit/master. I'm interested in getting something like a Presonus Firepod to run everything in via firewire...so my question: with something with firewire routing like this, what is the point of buying one of these uber soundcards people have? I currently use a SB Audigy 2 Platinum and have never had any latency problems (though it is only 2 live channels). With firewire, I don't see latency being a problem, even at 8 channels. Am i missing something?
