Of those I have heard speak, and/or read interviews with, my vote would have to go to Carlos Santana.

really? most of the things I have heard him say have been in a spiritual context but were not what I would classify as "dumb."

I would have to nominate some of the guitarists of 80's hair metal bands. I have heard some pretty insanely stupid comments from a few of them.

What about those guys from "presidents of the united states of America"? They only figured out how to play 3 strings each. Or maybe that's genius...who knows.

I know the smartest guitar player is Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. He not only is well respected for his nuclear and acoustic physics knowledge, but he helped to design stealth technology.

Any guitarist who sounds like he's imitating Nigel Tufnel.

Jimi Hendrix

He had the most incredible talent on the electric guitar the world has ever seen....whose future works would have been incredible.....took too many pills and bit the dust.....didn't even live to see 30.

It would have really been a blast to have watched Hendrix roll with the different phases of music throught the 70's, 80's, 90's, and beyond.

Shit, his concerts would probably STILL draw top dollar.

Anyway, Jimi Hendrix was a very intelligent guy...but...cutting out like that was stupid IMO

Yes he did, and his work with Steely Dan (and others) is legendary.

I agree that Jimi left us too soon because of dumb drug decisions, but along that line I would nominate Randy Rhoads for a dumb decision in a low-flying aircraft.

Am I being too harsh on Christmas?
