Is a mic cable really necessary?

I have a mic, but before I go spending all that money on a cable, I was wondering if everyone here thinks it's really worthwhile (?) Will it really improve the quality of my recordings?

Is there any other way I might be able to get around it? I was thinking maybe I could send the sound to my mixer using telepathy. Or maybe I could jerry-rig something using twine ?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Dude, you don't even need a mic - or a singer. Not if you have Behringer's new Pro Vocalizer 3000 Pro. You simply type in lyrics, pick a key and one of 18 vocal presets (Roger Daltry, Neil Young, Neil Diamond, Milli Vanilli...) and presto - the whole vocal track comes out via a gold-plated, balanced 1/4-inch out.

P.S. Be sure you get the "Pro" version - it has tube emulation which is a MUST.

You don't need a cable. If you have an SM57, just unscrew that little screw near the bottom of the microphone. The XLR connector will pop out--be careful not to break those little wires!

Now, just plug that connector directly into your mixer.

Did you know you can get 48 tracks for $49?

Seriously. No microphone necessary.

Hey!!!!!!!! There ain't nothin' wrong with your twine, but where you may get into trouble is choosing the type of wax to wax up that twine. Do you want beeswax for faster transients or paraffin for deeper low frequencies?
The possibilities are just too numerous to go into right now!!!?!?!?!

Happy Holidays!

Make sure you are using "balanced" twine.

And don't let the twine form loops because it will either create induction or a strong desire to lasso something.

Get the new Mic Cable Emulator. It is a plugin for Pro-Tools and Cakewalk. It needs tons of gain though. Tons and Tons of gain.................

Forget the twine they introduce a lot of static into the line. I would go the telepathy route if you must. However, you have to program your mixer to thought recognition, and it sometimes muddles your lyrics.
I have a really cheap option, that will give you results. Just have a sance and call up your favorite dead vocalist. Then you can either nicely ask them to sing the lyrics you want or you have an enslaving spell to force them to sing for you. I would recommend the asking nicely approach, because the enslaving spell has really dire consenquences (evil spirits come and haunt you in the middle of the night or day - whenever you are tyring to get some sleep anyway). Anyway, if don't get any sleep it's no good 'cause all of your mixdowns will suck.

I would go with Jim Morrison he's a good vocalist and he really liked to party. This option also gives you the best cleared sounding lyrics. Just an FYI.

I use that electric fence twine 5.99 for 1000yards - works a treat. When I add my custom 15000V phantom power unit into the signal chain it keeps the cattle at bay too.

Muddled lyrics? You're going to need to get that spirit to do some automatic writing for you. They like to write there own words. Trust me.

what happens if you're a vocalist and you suddenly start thinking about the recording engineer's wife? is there a filter for that?

If you use razor wire instead of a Mic lead you can swing it around your head and decapitate the drummer.

Roger Daltrey doesn't do this much any more, I noticed.

Yo Chessie:

NO! You don't need any cable or twine or treated twine or encapsulated twine.

Just use a wireless mic--VOILA--a good track and No Cable.

Telepathy will work only if you can get Mandrake as an engineer.

Happy New Year

Green Hornet

One of the most important things to remember when eating a fine bean burrito, is what it causes you to do after its cycled through your intestines.

Yes, thats right, youve guessed it......

There is a special molecule in your gas that, if huffed swiftly enough, will actually increase your I.Q.

During these 5 to 10 seconds of increased intelligence, make sure you are holding a copy of tape 0p.

And PXRxExSxTxO!!!!!
You just won a million dollars!!!!!

Merry Christmas.
