VS-2000CD Volume Issue
I am wondering if anyone is having problems with the volume of the mastered CD being lower than normal. When I play it on a regular CD player after a commercially recorded CD the volume is much lower. I can find nothing in the manuals to adjust the volume. Any suggestions?
Also, I notice that my condensor microphone is clipping at a lower volume than any other another inputs. When I adjust the input to stop the clipping it is at a lower volume than the other inputs. Any ideas on this one? |

Haven't got that far yet. My neighbor has mine in his studio tonight and is messin' with vocals. So I'll see what he finds.

Thanks...After reading around, I guess the right term is that the CD needs to be hotter. I've tried some other things but still no success.

Hey Dennis. When you set up your gain stage, do you get the pre-amp as hot as you can? What I do on my VS is turn the pre-amp till the red light comes on and then back it off just a bit. You may already know this, but you need to get it as hot as possible without clipping to tape. You'll never get your cd as hot as professional cd unless you send it off to a mastering house, but you should be able to get acceptable levels. If your gain stage is good, then you might have a problem with your machine. Also make sure your master fader is always set to unity gain.

If you really want some good VS advise, go here...
Home Rec is a great general purpose forum, but for Roland VS Specific stuff, you can't beat the vsplanet.

Jeff...Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try. I've heard that Sound Forge can get the volume close to commercial levels. I'm doing my home work on that now.
