On the occasion of my 2000th post...

I put this in the mic forum because everyone hits this place first. I still maintain the TLM 103 is a rip off, (there’s a mic comment to stay legit) .

Well let’s see. It’s been over 5 years since I first came to this lovely place. I have not been the most prolific of contributors but I have always strived to pass along any tidbits that I feel will improve others efforts.

This place has been my prep school for sound engineering. I have learned about mics from Harvey, techniques from Sonusman, not to mention thousands of other topics like compression, delay, reverb, the list goes on. The contributors to my education are most of the guys on the first page of a search for highest posts, as well as many others. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for giving of yourselves through the years and for sharing your experiences.

Along the way there were a few melt downs like the debates with Studio Projects, Harvey’s coming and going, and coming back, then going again, now gone for good. The occasional toad that thinks everyone here is an idiot and try’s spamming the latest junk product. DJL and his taking on, well, everyone. Just one big happy dysfunctional family which is probably the best entertainment on the internet.

Christmas is coming up and I am feeling the holidays so, thanks to everyone here and especially Dragon for creating this little hideaway hang out. Here's to the next 2000, which will still make me 7000 short of Blue Bear.

Congratulations Middleman on hitting 2K!!!

Congratulations Middleman on hitting 2K!!!

I just recently posted my 200th post (one order of magnitude lower ). I have benefited enormously from the people here too and I hope I can pass on some acquired wisdom.

About the TLM 103. What mic would you recommend in that $600-$1000 price range? I have read many good things about the Shure KSM44. I’m hoping to take the next step up in microphone echelons.

Soundelux U195, AT 4060 or AKG C414B-XLS.

Within the price range of the TLM 103 and all more versatile. For vocals primarily either of the first two, for vocals and everything else, the AKG althought it is a little more particular on its source.

The Shure I have not heard or used but it gets good reports. Don't buy anything until you have heard it yourself.
