My band has in the past... but we had two graphic artist in the band with all the lastest graphic software. Plus the drummer's wife is a professional artist and photographer.

My advice is to find a College / Vo-tech / or specialty school near by and ask a professor for the name and number of a student. Most will work with you hands on to get the vision you want on paper and will do it cheaper than most professionals will because they want to pad their portfollio when they get out and job hunt. So you know it will be quality work, not just another job to get done before 5. Plus they'll have all the software and printing facilities at their disposal.

Then again it is amazing what a creative person can do with a comon computer, digital camera, a few fonts, and a store bought printer. Like Music sometimes it's the imagination that is limiting, not the equipment.

Definitely don't do it on your own. Would you let a graphic artist record something on your album?

If you're on a budget, getting a college student is a good idea. If you go through one of the big companies like Disc Makers to press your CD, they have folks who can help you at a modest price.

I do it ALL on my own... it's fun... and good to know. Never be afraid to try... you might come up with something very original and totally 'you'...

I do all my own as well, you could probably do a pretty decent job too with Photoshop, Illustrator etc. Just take a few weeks and get yourself accustomed to the environment.
