Napster - the new legal one vs. itunes, etc. - any users???

itunes didn't support windows until recently, I guess Apple wants everyone to use Apple for music, not happening....

Napster, I see they have on demand listening and downloading, but you can't burn the tune until you buy it.

That seems fair, since I would almost never care to burn a compressed file and listen to it on high qual gear, if I want something, I can buy a CD and then know what I have instead of having to label some cdr or search my hard drive, etc.

If I do like a tune from an artist, I will want to know what else they did, so I WILL buy a CD. I have no problem with that. If I just want to hear that one song, then I'll listen to the radio, or with the new Napster, I guess I could listen on demand?

I'm still researching this stuff, anyone have any info, or experience?

I've used both and liked both.

I liked iTunes 'cause they have any and just about every song you care to look for. That being said, they only let you have your music, at three systems at one time. IMO that bull 'cause I buy a CD I can have the music anywhere I want.

Napster on the other hand let's you have the stuff wherever you want. Heck you can play it for free all you want on your computer, and never ever buy it.
If you do buy it you can have it wherever you want (As long as you burn it to a CD). Anyway, they don't have a restriction, but they also don't have the extensive library of music as iTunes does. I guess they pissed off some artists when they were given the stuff out for free.

In addition, Napster does have some artist which you can only hear a 30 seconds span of their songs. That's not something I like.
The Choice is yours. iTunes does let you put the music wherever you want, but only on three systems at one time. You can add and remove systems from your list.

I've never used the new napster, but I've been very happy with iTunes. You can only have it on 3 machines at once but if yopu burn it to a CD you can re-rip it wherever you want, and because I have an iPod I can take iTunes tracks wherever. My only problem has been I can never seem to find any of the music I want to buy on iTunes, but for what I can find it's great.

Napster has a search box I tried, didn't subscribe yet, and it was all found except Evan Dando, not that I'm dying to hear that.

OTOH, I don't think I need everything anyway. I'm more into discovery of new stuff.

I'm wondering, what can't be found either of them?

tried both and didn't like napster. I love iTunes as a program and use it to manage my mp3 collection. even if you never download a single song from iTunes, get the program cuz it kicks that much ass

To answer your question I mostly listen to indpendent music (like wilco and the flaming lips) a lot of which can't be found on iTunes or Napster (or a lot of retail stores for that matter) so most of what I can't find I wouldn't expect to be on there, and also they don't have any radiohead, but that's the only mainstream band I haven't found on there.

have you looked at emusic.com? i think that's the site. i think it deal in almost exclusivly indy labels
